Time zones

How the Nipto API handles dates, times of day and the week of your tribe.

Your tribe has a time zone, set in the app under Settings. Dates come back in UTC, and the API uses the time zone of your tribe for everything that depends on the day: a date alone sent as an argument, times of day, the current week and what "today" means.

Dates

  • Answers give every Date in UTC, in ISO 8601: "2026-03-15T08:30:00.000Z".
  • As an argument, a date alone like "2026-03-15" means that day in the time zone of your tribe. A team in New York and a team in Tokyo both get the 15th.
  • A date with a time and an offset, like "2026-03-15T08:30:00.000Z" or "2026-03-15T09:30:00+01:00", means that exact moment.

Times of day

A Time is "HH:mm" on 24 hours, in the time zone of your tribe. createReminder(date: "2026-03-15", time: "08:00") reminds at 8 in the morning where your tribe lives, and a reminder answers its time the same way.

The week

  • A week starts at midnight, in the time zone of your tribe, on the first day chosen in the app settings (Monday, Sunday, ...).
  • activities lists the activities of the current week.
  • createActivity takes a date within the current week only, and never in the future.
  • deleteActivity works on activities of the current week only.
  • weeks lists ended weeks. Each has a uid like "202640" (year then week number), a startDate and an endDate.
